“The Disneyland imaginary is neither true nor false: it is a deterrence machine set up in order to rejuvenate in reverse the fiction of the real.”

- Jean Baudrillard

The title Huddled Mess is in reference to the poem The New Colossus by Emma Lazarus. The composition references the painting the Wreck of the Raft of Medusa by Gericault. Huddled Mess is inspired by the idea that immigration is purely a longing at a chance for a better life. The idea that leaving behind one’s home, family, and culture to build a new life in an unfamiliar place is an easy transition or a decision taken lightly is pure fantasy.
